Glas Table(s)

A handful of tables of different size and function from coffee to dining to work tables have been fabricated from Corning Rolled Pyrex Sight Glass. Steel armatures provide rigidity to the coffee tables or chassis-like support for these monumental glass table surfaces. Imperfections in the rolled glass catch the light and the eye.

Industrial specification wheels allow ease of movement from space to space. The glass is normally employed in making vision panes for inspection of blast furnaces and in the fashioning of telescope lenses after the undulations of the rolled surface are ground flat and smooth. The industrial character of the glass is retained in this design, including an aeroplane wing-like profile edge; the form is assumed upon cooling from the molten state.

I was first introduced to this material on a visit with Architect, Lawrence Kenny, to Gray Glass, Queens, New York. We had proposed a similar glass table to client, Jose Carreras, for his home in Central Park South.
