Ellerdale Road, Hampstead, London

Planning permission was awarded for remodeling and expansion of this Fitzjohns / Netherhall Conservation Area 1970s infill house for a broadcast music world figure. The design would add 66 square meters of accommodation. Enjoyment of the house would be transformed, placing particular uses to take advantage of natural light, and a beautiful garden.

An enlarged kitchen would connect a morning room, bathed in eastern light, to a more expansive dining and living space facing west. The central living and entertainment area leads to a beautiful garden overlooking west London. The western sky would immerse these expanded spaces in beautiful afternoon and evening light.

The approved design contributes positive enhancement of the Conservation Area and complements the Victorian character, material and scale of its neighbours. The permitted design would contrast with its attached neighbour in form, proportion, detail and sympathetic natural materials. The scheme remains to be implemented. The planning permission for remodeling was accompanied by a letter from Camden Council inviting an alternative, demolition and construction of a new house on the site.
